What to look forward to in the future: The Pico W and H are on sale now, while the WH is shipping at some point in August. As the company notes, its boards have found a lot of success beyond their initial hobbyist and educational focus, as companies have begun to integrate the controllers directly into their products. More than once in the wild, I’ve seen some sophisticated pieces of machinery being controlled by these inexpensive systems

The Raspberry Pi Foundation today introduced a new line of affordable and functional computer systems, launching the Pico W, Pico H, and Pico WH. All three include Wi-Fi connectivity and Raspberry Pi hardware for a $6 starting price.
While the Raspberry Pi devices have been a lot of fun outside of the classroom and lab, they’ve also found their way into many different types of products. From home automation to robots, these innovations demonstrate that the company is constantly finding ways to take its platform beyond its original purpose.
Founded in 2005, Raspberry Pi has become a staple in the maker movement. But unlike many other makers, the team behind this fun-filled endeavor was always focused on education and building upon the enthusiasm of people who wanted to learn about computer science at an early age. More than that, they wanted to make it possible for kids around the world to get access to their favorite games, cartoons, and web pages from their computers easily. The Raspberry Pi Foundation is introducing a new generation of boards that will be the first to offer 802.11 Wi-Fi. The Pico W and Pico H boards offer similar capabilities as their predecessors, allowing you to run your various automation projects or coding efforts without an internet connection. All three new microcontroller boards are available for purchase tonight in the U.S., Europe, and Australia.
