Russia’s Lies About Bioweapons in Ukraine Make the World Less Safe

Not only did Russia’s military intelligence service orchestrate a large-scale misinformation campaign about the Buk missile that downed the Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 over Ukraine, the Kremlin also created an entire fake news factory in order to conduct a disinformation campaign about Russia’s involvement in the war in Eastern Ukraine from 2014 to present day.

The Kremlin has been waging a propaganda campaign for nearly four years now, with many of its lies about what is happening on the ground in Eastern Ukraine making their way into mainstream Western media outlets.

Russia is in the midst of a hybrid war against Ukraine. Though there is a lot of evidence of Russia’s involvement in Ukraine, there are also lies being spread by Russia to make the world less safe.

One such lie is that Russia has not been stockpiling or researching bioweapons since treaty was signed back in 1972, but this is untrue. In fact, Russia signed the treaty because they wanted to be free from onsite inspections and under strict control by western leaders. They wanted to be able to work on their bio weapons programs out of sight and away from other nations who would object and demand inspections.

Russia recently made headlines with Security Council members accusing them of using biological weapons in Ukraine.

It is not hard to see why Russia would use this type of warfare to their advantage. Biological weapons do not produce a lot of noise, so it is unlikely that any other country, including the United States, would have known about it.

Even if we assume that Russia was not the one who used these weapons in Ukraine, they knew about it and did nothing to stop them from being used against Ukrainian citizens.

Russia claims that they can prove their innocence by providing evidence of chemical weapon use by Ukrainian soldiers in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. But their evidence does not match up with international standards for the use of chemical weapons.

The Russian Federation’s denial of the existence of bioweapons in Ukraine is a fundamental reason for the world unsafe.

Russia's first and only foreign military intervention in history was in the Crimean War, and this came more than 160 years ago. Russia has never had an interest in expanding its borders, so it must have some other motive for denying evidence of bioweapons being used on Ukrainian soil.

This article explores how Russia is not just denying the use of Bioweapons in Ukraine but also the existence of the weapons. This is a crucial issue because if Russia is making lies about Bioweapons it means that they are developing weapons we don't know about and they could get used in any war they want.
